Frequently Asked Questions
Who Protexure is, what the brand stands for.
What is Protexure?
Protexure is a licensed insurance provider specializing in professional liability and cyber risk insurance for solo to mid-sized law firms and accounting firms. We focus exclusively on professionals, which allows us to deliver coverage that’s relevant, competitive, and easier to place.
Who does Protexure work with?
Protexure is built for:
- Solo attorneys and law firms with 1–15 lawyers
- Solo accountants, CPAs, and accounting firms with 1–15 professionals
- Retail insurance brokers who serve these professional niches
If you’re outside this range, we may still be able to help, but our core programs are designed for small to mid-sized firms.
What types of insurance does Protexure offer?
Our core offerings include:
- Professional Liability Insurance for lawyers and accountants
- Cyber Risk Insurance for legal and accounting firms
- Additional coverage options such as EPLI, BOP, Excess Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and more, depending on firm size and eligibility
Why does Protexure specialize only in lawyers and accountants?
Because specialization matters. Smaller professional firms face different risks than large firms, and they’re often overcharged or underserved as a result. By focusing on this segment:
- Coverage is tailored to real-world claims these firms face
- Pricing stays competitive
- Underwriting is faster and more consistent
- Support comes from people who understand your profession
Is Protexure an insurance carrier?
Protexure operates as a Managing General Agency (MGA) in select states and works closely with a network of AM Best “Excellent” or higher rated carriers. Coverage for certain programs is backed by ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company, a financially stable and highly respected professional liability carrier.
How quickly can I get an estimate?
In most cases, professional liability estimates are available same day or next business day. Cyber risk estimates are also fast and handled by experienced, in-house teams.
How is pricing determined?
Pricing is based on factors such as:
- Practice areas or services provided
- Firm size and structure
- Claims history
- Years of continuous coverage
- Selected limits and deductibles
Professional liability policies typically follow a step-rate structure, meaning premiums increase gradually over time as exposure grows and then level off once the policy matures.
Can Protexure review my current policy?
Yes. We offer no-obligation policy reviews. Our team can review your existing coverage, identify gaps, and provide a side-by-side comparison so you can make an informed decision—without pressure.
Do Protexure clients really save money?
Often, yes. Many Protexure clients save 20% or more compared to their prior coverage, while maintaining similar or improved protection. Savings depend on firm profile, coverage history, and risk factors.
What happens if I have a claim?
Claims are handled by experienced claims teams aligned with the carrier providing your coverage. Many policies include valuable features such as:
- Mediation incentives
- Disciplinary and regulatory coverage
- Subpoena assistance
- Crisis event support
We’re also here to help guide you through the process if a claim arises.
Do I need Cyber Risk Insurance if I already have professional liability?
Yes. Professional liability and cyber risk insurance cover different exposures. Professional liability responds to errors or omissions in your services. Cyber risk insurance addresses data breaches, ransomware, business interruption, and regulatory obligations related to client data. Law and accounting firms are frequent cyber targets.
Are policies available in all states?
Protexure is a licensed professional liability broker in all 50 states. Availability of specific programs or coverages may vary by state, firm size, and risk profile.
I’m an insurance broker. Can I partner with Protexure?
While Protexure is not an open brokerage at this time, if your agency works with small law or accounting firms, you may qualify for our exclusive broker program. Participating brokers retain full ownership of client relationships and gain access to:
- Fast, in-house underwriting
- Competitive commissions
- An underwriting portal
